Cockwells Superyacht - Produced by Norco GRP with Biresin CR83

Biresin CR83 epoxy resin system, formulated especially for marine application, was used for the matrix due to its excellent fibre wetting and flow properties.

Cockwells of Mylor Bridge, Falmouth, UK are designers and builders of classic and custom yachts. When Cockwells designed a 10m tender for the superyacht MY Grace, currently being constructed at Perini Navi in Italy, Norco GRP of Poole, Dorset were a logical choice for the construction of the tender. Norco has got long time experience in producing high quality, cost effective marine components via the infusion process as well as producing the large plugs and moulds necessary for such parts. Norco‘s sister company, Mouldcam, produced the direct epoxy paste tooling using Cockwell‘s own 3D CNC design data. The tender is capable of 40 knots, due to its 2 powerful engines, each with 315hp. The upper hull and deck were produced by vacuum infusion using stitched glassfibre biaxial fabrics produced by Formax UK as reinforcement and cross drilled closed cell PVC sandwich core. The hull bottom is a monolithic GRP structure.

The single piece deck (240 kg) of this boat was infused in only 20 minutes while the hull (730 kg) was infused in just 55 minutes. Biresin CR83 has excellent mechanical properties and a low tendency to crystallize.
